Physical Education

Year 1 to Year 6 Students at South Bunbury Primary School each receive one Physical Education lesson each week, delivered by a Specialist Teacher. These classes, whilst developing athletic skills, are also promoted to ensure our students develop good sportsmanship.

The focus of these lessons is to acquire, practise, manage and refine Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS). FMS include throwing, catching, running, jumping, hopping, galloping, kicking, balancing, and leaping. They are the basic building blocks of more specialised, complex skills used in organised and non-organised games, sports, and recreational activities.

A progression of skill development from Year 1 through to Year 6 supports students to build on their FMS and, for example, adjust their force and speed to improve accuracy and control to successfully achieve an offensive or defensive outcome or goal. This includes use of appropriate skills, spatial awareness, and relationship to and with objects, people and space.

All Pre-Primary to Year 6 students have the opportunity to participate in 2 weeks of swimming lessons a year.
